Top of mind awareness has become increasingly important in recent years. And one way to ensure that you stay at the forefront of your customers’ minds is to create an internet meme around your product or service—and that’s exactly what Lego did with its famous Lego Piece 26047 Meme. Whether you’re talking about online content, social media marketing, or traditional marketing materials like fliers and advertisements, meme-related campaigns have proven to be exceptionally effective when it comes to promoting businesses and their products or services.
What is piece 26047?
Lego piece 26047 is an official Lego piece that comes from their Heroica Lego set. It is part of their latest series, where you are able to choose between good and evil and embark on an adventure filled with epic battles. You can play with up to three other people to complete quests, fight enemies, and collect new treasures. On December 18th, 2016, there was a reddit post showing something special about Lego piece 26046. After clicking on it multiple times it transformed into something completely different from what it was before! It was incredibly exciting for everyone who found out about it!
Are you feeling lucky, punk?
Google has an astonishing number of search requests per day, and Lego Piece 26047 is a surprising search result. This simple piece from 1988 has been covered in memes since 2011, but its popularity wasn’t enough to save it from being discontinued in 2015. It had become so popular that Lego fans protested when Lego announced it would stop producing it—but there was no way to anticipate how successful its meme-ification would become. It’s not only used as an in-joke among fans, but also appears on everything from videos to t-shirts and even magazine covers. To date, any reasonable estimate suggests at least tens of thousands have heard or seen its (in)famous catchphrase.
Do NOT get too attached
While memes are great for breaking up office monotony, they aren’t always good at getting work done. In fact, browsing meme aggregators like Reddit or Imgur is probably one of the biggest time-wasters on the internet. If you’re determined to take your productivity to new heights, start by unsubscribing from all your favorite meme accounts and filling that space with something more valuable—or at least less funny. Get started by closing your browser tab and doing something else—anything else.
Why it was replaced in 2018
It all started with a different piece (which is still in production, BTW). The 32×32 top-left corner piece, which comes in dark bluish gray and bright yellow, was replaced because it had become too complex to produce. Butterfly was announced as its replacement in October 2017 and began production shortly thereafter. When fans learned that Butterfly was slated to take over their beloved Piggyback Rider they organized an online protest, using hashtags like #SavePBR and #NotMyPBR to raise awareness on social media. Because why replace something that isn’t broken?
There are more pieces with hidden words in them!
If you’re one of many who fell in love with Lego piece meme, you’ll be happy to know that there are quite a few pieces with hidden words in them. Even if you don’t play with Legos anymore, it never hurts to have words like inspiration and infinity written on your work desk or kitchen table—right? There are so many different pieces available, including some new ones! So go out and get inspired! Just do it while pretending that they’re actually giant Legos. Admit it, that’s more fun.
