What is Flame Retardant Fabric? Fire retardant fabric is a special type of technical fabric that prevents the spread of fire. It can be incorporated chemically into the polymer molecule or mixed physically into polymers after polymerization to suppress, reduce, or improve the spread of flame.

Treatment of Flame Retardant Fabric:

1. Fabric treatments:
Fire retardant products can be applied to both natural textile fibers and synthetic fibers. The textile fiber is treated with chemicals that can reduce the temperature of the fabric. When a fire occurs, the Flame Retardant Fabric interacts with the gases and tars produced. It converts gases and tar into carbon char. This ultimately reduces the thermal conductivity of the fabric.

2. Non-permanent & semi-permanent treatment:
Non-permanent & Semi-permanent treatments are used for substrates that are not exposed to water and are not wetted. In this treatment, the principle involves dissolving salt in water and soaking the fiber or cloth with this solution, and then drying the cloth. The salt remains on the cloth. It helps the system delay the appearance or spread of fire.
The impregnation is usually done with padding. To wash means to soak the cloth in the bath. Then the path between the two superimposed rollers applied a high pressure. The tool used to do this is called a ‘mangle’. This is a simple method to use. It is cheap and works for many fibers. The ‘mangle’ device makes it possible to stop the absorption, get the salt deep into the fabric, and recover the excess. Therefore, the drying process follows.
3. Complete treatment:
In this permanent treatment, two types of treatment are available for cellulose. The first treatment is to attach a chemical molecule to cellulose, using one of its own OH-groups. One is based on the polymerization of the product itself, which creates a network in and around the fiber, without creating a chemical bond. In both treatments, the material used is based on phosphorus.
In medicine, it is important to work in an acidic environment. This causes a loss of fiber strength, usually 15- 30%. Another solution is to maintain almost constant electrical energy.
